The Miracle Class Association was formed in 1975 to represent the interests of all Miracle owners whether racing or cruising, and we are a very active and friendly bunch. Amongst many other things, we represent owners in negotiations with the Copyright Holders, organise National and Area Championships, produce Halo our quarterly magazine, control and develop the one-design principle by maintaining measurement procedures and records, and stimulate new interest in the class by promoting the boat and the Association at the Alexandra Palace 'Dinghy Show' and this website. Membership of the association is of great benefit to members in many different ways and the fees are minimal. For 26 years we have maintained a preferential class association insurance scheme with Newton Crum to help further in driving down your running costs.

Startline Action

The Miracle Class Association was formed in July 1975, just as the very first boats were being built. We are a non-profit organisation run by an elected committee to look after the interests of all Miracle owners whether racing or cruising.

Our activities include...

  • Organisation of Area Championships, National Championships and Travellers Trophies
  • Production and circulation of "Halo" our tri-annular magazine, an Association Rules Book updated as necessary, and development and maintenance of this website
  • Control and administration of boat measurement to ensure the continuation of the one-design principle of the class
  • Representation of owners in negotiations with the Copyright Holders
  • Publicity of the Association and of the boat, and representation at boat shows and exhibitions to stimulate the growth of Miracle ownership and membership of the Association
Capsize training

Capsize instruction the easy way! One of many events organised throughout the year.

Here are number good reasons why you should join the Miracle Association (or rejoin if you are a lapsed member):

  • If you want to ensure that the value of your Miracle stays as high as possible, give us your support and join the Association...
This is because we look after the interests of all Miracle owners, whether cruising or racing, by controlling measurement rules and ensuring that the one-design concept of the Miracle class is maintained. We do this whilst ensuring that worthwhile revisions to the rules enhance ease of handling and safety, whilst further development in new materials is continually investigated. In this way older boats are not rendered out of date nor inferior, and can continue to compete on equal terms economically, whilst maintaining their market value.
  • If you would like to know about the latest developments in the class and the coming events, you should join the Association...
We publish a magazine Halo four times a year, and maintain this website, keeping you informed about developments in the class and providing a medium for the exchange of comments, questions and answers. It is here that we publish updates of the Association rules, an events calendar and general information.
  • If you require advice on rigging and tuning your Miracle or would just like to get closer to the front of the fleet, you need to join the Association...
Halo frequently includes articles on rigging and tuning and also advice from top sailors on racing technique. This gives you access to the considerable knowledge of Miracle sailors and other experts on many aspects of Miracle building, sailing and maintenance, and is invaluable to both novices and the more experienced.
  • If you want to hold a valid measurement certificate or get your boat measured, you must be a member of the Association...
It is an Association rule that a measurement certificate can only be issued to a member of the Association and will only remain valid whilst held by a member. It is highly desirable that all boats competing in club racing hold a valid measurement certificate to ensure that boats compete on equal terms - many clubs make this a membership requirement. It is always in your best interest to hold a valid certificate - it is after all, the only unequivocal proof that your boat really is a Miracle through and through. Should you eventually wish to sell your boat, it will ensure that the resale value is maintained, and will make selling it much easier.
  • If you want to enter open meetings or championships, you must join the Association...
Most clubs running open meetings insist on competitors being Association members, as we do in our Area, Inland and National Championship events.

For many years we have maintained an excellent working relationship with Newton Crum insurers - by joining the Association and insuring with them you will be:

  • benefiting from excellent premium rates and
  • helping to keep your membership costs to a minimum.
This is because the Association receives commission on the premiums received by them, which in turn keeps our costs down so that we can pass on these benefit to members by a reduced membership rate. Should you be unfortunate enough to have to claim, it is so much easier to settle if arising out of racing, where both parties are covered by the same insurer.

Association membership runs from 1st April to 31st March and you can join or renew any time after 1st January for the coming year. It is therefore possible to get 15 months membership for the price of 12 if you are joining for the first time. That's less that 25p a week! If you join after 31 September but before 1 January, you only pay half the normal fee for that membership year if applying for the first time. The subscription rates are as follows...
